Ladies will go to almost any extent to look classy and glamorous. Most tend to go the heels way. But really, how bad is wearing heels every day bad for your feet and your body at large?

Wearing high heels is one of the most common causes of foot pain in women. This is according to NBC News correspondent, Dr. Natalie Azar. Wearing heels restricts blood circulation in lower limbs, and can lead to spider veins. This is because heels force your ankles to bend forward.

Shortening of the muscles in your calves and stiffening of tendons, leading to pain and muscle spasms. This pain can also spread to the back and knee. The back suffers because the spine has to move in a manner that is not natural so as to maintain balance on heels, which stresses the back causing a sore lower back.

According to today.com a study from Stanford University found that heels from three and half inches or higher put a lot of stress on the knees. This could increase a woman’s risk for osteoarthritis, which is a common chronic condition of the joints.
