Business owners in Daraja Mbili market, Kisii town, are slowly picking up after their business premises which were brought down by fire on 19th January 2018.
Reconstruction of the market which has not been sponsored by the government has started to ensure that the normal business activities are back to normal.
This was the second time in less than six months after a fire broke in the market and destroyed property worth thousands.
According to the owners who lost their property, the Kenya power company which they accuse of causing the fire is yet to respond or compensate them.
"Kenya power have not spoken. They came and installed the broken lines and poles only," said Joseph Nyarango, who once owned a boda-boda spare parts.
The traders also blame the county government of not having ready fire engines to respond to emergencies.
"This fire would have been contained if the county government had a quick response team to attend to emergencies. We are in town yet they delayed, what of those who are far away," said one angry business lady.
The market is the busiest in South Nyanza and also a source of revenue for Kisii county government.
