Residents around Daraja Mbili area, Kisii county have urged the Kisii county government to close a nearby slaughterhouse.
They have requested the County government to close the facility since it poses a health threat to the community round.
They claimed that foul smell and dirty water from the slaughter house makes it hard for those staying around it making it intolerable.
They sighted the poor drainage system as the cause of a lot of stagnant waters around the slaughterhouse providing mosquitoes a breeding zone.
Despite the claim by the Bassi Central MCA Henry Moracha that Sh8 million was allocated to renovate the facility, no improvements have been made and the situation keeps worsening as by the day.
“The contractor who was given the tender was paid in full despite the fact that a shoddy work was done he must be held responsible," said one of the residents.
Moracha blamed Kisii central MCA Wilfred Monyenye since he has not taken any step concerning the issue despite him owning many butcheries in town.
"Wilfred Monyenye has many butcheries in Kisii town, but he is not taking care of this slaughterhouse,” he added.
