Daraja Mbili traders in Kisii have expressed their outcry over what they termed as double taxation on their businesses by the national and county governments.
According to the traders, they pay revenue for their goods on entry to the market and another tax at the market stalls.
Led by one Evans Onchwari traders in the markets urged the county government to rescue them from the unscrupulous tax collectors.
They said they had raised the matter with the county government but it’s now months and no action has been taken so far.
“We are telling the county government to deal with this problem once and for all because we don’t want to take the law into our hands," he added.
The traders said the revenue collectors don’t have badges and uniform for identification.
They threatened not to be remitting their revenues if action is not taken faster.
However, when I contacted one of the senior county officials he said they were working on modalities on how the traders grievances can be addressed in few weeks time.
“We have heard their grievances and we can assure them that we will sort them out," he added.
He warned those who masquerade as county government revenue workers that they will be arrested and charged if caught.
