Traders at Daraja Mbili Market in Kisii county have raised alarm over the poor state of the market especially during this rainy season.

According to the traders, the bad state of the market caused by uncollected garbage has made the conditions unfavorable for their businesses as customers have kept off buying their commodities in fear of contracting diseases such as cholera.

The traders now claim that the area municipality officers are a sleep in their job but keen on collecting daily taxes.

They have threatened to protest to the county headquarters office to tell the county governor James Ongwae to address their plight.

"The municipality officials should hire more cleaners to clean up the market and ensure garbage is collected on a daily basis or else we demonstrate and stop paying taxes", said Jennifer Ongoro, a trader.

"The flow of rain water has become difficult during this rainy season since the trenches have blocked thus making the movement in the market impossible", said Rose Morira another trader.

She added that customers have kept off buying due to the poor business environment and urged the relevant authorities to address the matter urgently.

"We have lost customers who are now scared of cholera because the business environment is dirty and muddy. The county should use the taxes we pay daily to solve the garbage problem in the market,” noted.
