Kisii county government has been challenged to build stalls at Daraja mbili market in Kisii town before El Nino rains start.

Speaking to this writer on Monday at Daraja Mbili Market, traders led by Ms Gladys Mochama noted that if the county government of Kisii wants to gain from traders, it must make the business environment better by constructing stalls and reduce the amount of levies collected from them.

They have fears that the coming El Nino rains that are expected to start will affect their businesses.

The traders have threatened to boycott paying tax if the county government fails to build them stalls for them before onset of El Nino rains.

“We are asking the county government to construct stalls for us because we have heard from social media, newspapers, radio and televisions that El Nino rains might start any time from now,” said Dancan Bosire a businessman at Daraja Mbili market.

“We have feared that our business is going to be totally disrupted. We are conducting our business at open air space here at Daraja Mbili. If we can’t get those stalls before El Nino let the county government forget getting tax from us,” he said.

This is not the first time the county government has been challenged to build stalls at Daraja Mbili market.
