The National Super Alliance (NASA) Opposition has dared the Jubilee administration to arrest flag bearer Raila Odinga over the alleged hate speech remarks.
Lead by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the team has warned the government against demands for Raila's arrest for reportedly inciting the Maasai community against 'foreigners'.
Speaking at Asumbi Catholic Church in Homa Bay County Sunday, the NASA team said they would boycott the August polls if the government went ahead with their threat.
Orengo argued that the allegations against Raila were being orchestrated by his political enemies who are seeking to stop his presidential bid.
"I am telling President Kenyatta not to make any attempt to arrest Raila. He should know that his father, Jomo Kenyatta, was saved from prison by Raila's father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga," said Orengo.
"If Raila is arrested, all of us as NASA politicians and our supporters will go to the police cell so we can also be arrested," the senator added."We should not divert the attention of Kenyans regarding this matter. Let the President speed up the publication of the TJRC report so Kenyans can start forgiving one another," Orengo said.
The same sentiments were echoed by Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga who said Raila's arrest calls were being fed on Kenyans to blind them to the hard times afflicting them.
"Raila's comments were misunderstood by Jubilee. Let them provide Kenyans with maize flour and sugar instead of misleading them," said Ms Wanga.
