Police in Nairobi have sent a warning to Maasai herders planning to hold protests in the city where they have threatened to drive cows to the office of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

While speaking to the  press on Sunday, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said his office had not been notified of such protests.

He warned that attempts to bring cattle to the city would not be tolerated at any rate.

“Are there ranches in Nairobi? Wherever they are coming from I will deal with them. Let them go where ranches are. I have not been notified about any people planning to demonstrate with cattle. Let them bring meat to the people of Nairobi but not cattle,” Koome warned.

A section of Maasai leaders are said to be planning to bring to the city centre their cows in protest of the alleged killing of 300 cows in Laikipia.

Although herders claim over 300 heads of cattle were killed by police, the authorities have maintained that only 75 of them died during an exchange of fire at Olmoran in Laikipia.
