President Uhuru Kenyatta has welcomed opposition leader Raila Odinga’s alleged plan to withdraw from the repeat presidential election set for October 26.

The President on Monday said that Kenyans want elections conducted quickly and asked Raila to withdraw from the race as soon as possible if he is not ready.

He criticised Raila for waiting for so long if the only plan he had for the repeat elections was withdrawing at the last minute.

“Kenyans are tired and want to move forward. If you do not want elections, step aside so that the country can move forward,” said the President.

He accused Raila of looking for excuses to run away from the elections, criticising him for waiting until over Sh12 billion had been spent to organise the polls before reaching the said decision to withdraw.
