Months after hawkers were relocated from the Nakuru town centre, two cases where the county government has been sued by the commercial estate owners and hawkers, are yet to be concluded.
Lady Justice Abigael Mshila on Tuesday scheduled hearing of the cases for June 16.
In the suit, the business owners have accused Governor Kinuthia Mbugua of infringing their rights by relocating the street vendors and hawkers along their building alleys.
The hawkers accused the county government of forcefully relocating them from the town centre and allocating them space in congested lanes where business is poor.
Judge Mshila said that the two petitions will be heard jointly as they are all about same issue of traders.
She instructed all parties to file and serve each other relevant documents within 21 days ahead of the hearing.
Among the commercial business owners include the Nakuru Cosmetics Centre, Farmers World Centre and the Eagle Palace Hotel.
The business owners had earlier asked to be enjoined in the hawkers’ and street vendors’ case.
In January this year, the county government embarked on a relocation that saw thousands of street vendors and hawkers removed from the town centre and settled along the alleys next to the aggrieved commercial business owners.
Controversy has since brewed as both parties accuse the county government of conducting the resettlement improperly.
