A week after grilling Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho over his alleged fake academic certificate, the detectives have now revealed that they have compelling evidence to charge him, the People Daily reports.A source attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) told the daily they have sufficient evidence to sustain a case in a court of law.According to the daily, the investigating team led by Assistant Inspector General of Police Samuel Nyabengi has “gathered overwhelming evidence against the governor” over claims that he forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate. The outspoken Governor is being investigated after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) disowned his result slip, terming it a forgery. The examination body wrote to the DCI claiming the 1992 KCSE result slip that Joho is alleged to have used to gain admission to the University of Nairobi was forged. The Nyabengi team has already submitted its report to DCI boss Ndegwa Muhoro who is expected to forward the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko.Last Friday, Joho obtained orders stopping the police and the DPP from arresting, charging and prosecuting him.Justice Eric Ogolla issued the orders in respect to any matters under investigations by the Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya National Examinations Council and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
