The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has given a new twist to the ongoing National Youth Service (NYS) corruption scandal after giving a statement indicating that Josephine Kabura had lied when giving information on the money that the then head Banking Fraud Unit's Joseph Mugwanja and Corporal Jeremiah Sautet had received.
Ms Kabura indicated that the duo had received a sum of Sh80 million from former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to cover up material evidence on NYS fraud.
However, DCI's head of investigations John Kariuki has said that Ms Kabura's statements were false and she had lied under the oath.
"In terms of the investigations done, it is now clear that Ms Josephine Kabura lied on oath and we subsequently recommend that she be charged for falsely swearing as dictated by the Penal Code in section 114. We further recommend that the two officers implicated in the NYS graft be cleared of any wrongdoing," said Kariuki.
The statement further said that former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru did not issue any amount to the two officers as depicted by Kabura's affidavit.
Earlier on, Kabura had said she had personally given the amount to the two officers on July 9th last year after receiving institutions from Waiguru.
This latest statement will give the NYS case a new twist as Kabura had been relied on as a lead to uncovering the corruption that had rocked the youth service leading to the loss of hundreds of million of shillings.
