The deadline for filing election petitions is Friday Photo/The Star
Those wishing to challenge the outcome of the General Elections have until Friday 8th September to submit their petitions to the court.
The law states that citizens are given 28 days after the declaration of the results to submit their petition.
This includes governor, senator, Member of Parliament, Woman Representative, and Member of County Assembly position. The Judiciary which expected to receive several election petitions this year have so far received only 24. Siaya governorship loser Nicholas Gumbo was the first to file a petition yesterday while Former Teso South Mp Mary Emase and Teso North counterpart Arthur Odera have also filed their petitions at the Busia High Court. Following the decision to nullify the presidential elections by the Supreme Court on Friday, there is a belief that many more will come forward to contest the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after they were found guilty of hurting the integrity of August vote.
