In a period of two weeks, residents of Bahati constituency have buried 5 young men who succumbed to fatalities of illicit brews.
Nyamarutu and Kwa Essie are the popular hotspots where all the 5 who died took their last glass of the drink.
On Thursday, residents, filled with rage, marched to the two drinking dens and demolished the structures.
In an interview with one of the residents, she decried the deteriorating situation that operations of Nyamarutu and Kwa Essie drinking dens have cost her.
“My children have dropped out of school as I cannot solely meet their school fees. We live from hand to mouth as my husband is a dedicated daily drinking officer,” Janet Mukiri, a mother of three, said.
Another resident alleged that most of those who visit the drinking dens have turned out to be very lazy and dangerous criminals.
“My son has become too lazy. He does not work and now steals from me in a bid to raise a few coins which he spends on the poisonous concoction at Kwa Essie,” added another parent.
Married women were not left behind either as they purported that their husbands have neglected their patriarchal duties and have turned to be stooges.
Confirmed reports indicate that area Chief Titus Mugo has relentlessly worked to curb the vice but police have continued to take bribes from the owners of the joints.
They have called for immediate intervention by NACADA chair John Mututho and other government organs to address the situation which is spiralling out of hand.
