Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua now wants more security allocated to him after he received a hostile reception during a rally in Mavoko on Saturday last week.
Mutua claims that his rivals are allegedly using rowdy youths to curtail his campaigns a situation he said is a threat to his life.
The Machakos governor says hat his hostile reception in Mavoko on Saturday last week was planned and orchestrated by his rivals.
Mutua said that his rivals are afraid of losing in the August 8 re-election and are allegedly using goons to frustrate his campaigns.
“It is evident that my rivals want to frustrate and curtail my political campaigns ahead of the August 8 polls,” he said as quoted by the Star.
Governor Mutua asked the police to investigate his rivals who he claimed are using every means to frustrate him. “I have aired my concerns with the police and hope they will take action against rogue politicians who think that they can hire goons to intimidate me,” he added.
Mutua said that he will not be intimidated, adding that he will traverse the county in search of votes for his re-election bid.
He warned politicians against inciting locals to violence.
Mutua asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to lock out politicians who instigate violence from participating in the August 8 polls.
On Saturday, Governor Mutua received a hostile reception in Mavoko. The governor was forced to abandon his campaign after rowdy locals allegedly turned hostile and shouted him down.
Governor Mutua is seeking re-election as a governor but faces stiff competition from Wiper party hopeful Wavinya Ndeti, deputy governor Bernard Kiala contesting as an independent candidate and Jubilee Party’s Lemmy Muia.
Mutua who fell out with Wiper last year is seeking re-election on Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) Party.
