A lobby has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to deal decisively with opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka should they dare to swear themselves in.

The NASA leaders have threatened to take the oath of office as the 'people's president' and 'deputy president' respectively should President Uhuru Kenyatta refuse to dialogue with them on a number of issues they have laid out, notably electoral reforms.

But Mount Kenya Youth Caucus termed the plans as hot air, insisting they are illegal.

Through their chairman Linford Mutembei, the group urged President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto not to be distracted by what they described as parroting by the NASA leadership.

"Uhuru and Ruto are in office through a constitutional procedure and therefore claims that so and so will be sworn in is just hot air. The Constitution is very clear on that, but if anyone wants to go ahead with such plans, Uhuru should deal with them ruthlessly within the confines of the law," he said, as quoted by the Nation on Monday.

Mutembei accused the NASA leaders of engaging in unending political shenanigans, which he said are holding the country back, in a bid to remain politically relevant.

Speaking to journalists in Kiambu Town, the lobby boss said the President Kenyatta-led administration should be accorded conducive environment to deliver on its manifesto.

"The opposition should play its role of putting the government in check and give alternatives in order to ensure transparency and accountability but not unhelpful criticism with a view of earning political mileage," Mutembei was further quoted by the local daily.
