Elders from Bomariba ward in Bonchari have asked provincial administrators to arrest and prosecute youths who have been terrorizing area residents.
Speaking on Sunday at Gesera village, speaker after speaker seemed to be directing their fury to the youthful population over the deteriorating security in the region.
According to them, attackers have been targeting elderly population, beating and injuring them besides looting their properties.
They also demanded deployment of police officers to the region to take part in night patrols as a way of combing the crime rates in the region before the situation escalates.
“As elders, we are very worried on attacks launched by youthful people against us. They are beating and injuring us besides looting our properties. This is completely unacceptable in the modern democracies,” said Alfayo Oindi.
“We want chiefs and their assistants to do their job thoroughly. Police officers should also be deployed here to reinforce provincial administration. These youths should be apprehended and subjected to the law,” he added.
They said they would release the list of the suspects since they were synonymous only if the government provided ample security to them.
“I have always maintained that these are our children and we know them. We cannot continue losing valuables besides sustaining injuries. I appeal to the government to give us security and we name them without delay,” said elder Kevin Ombwori.
