Muslim clerics have urged the government to take stern action against politicians propagating hate speech and incitement to violence ahead of 2017 general election.
According to Uasin Gishu chairman of Imams and Muslim Preachers Abubakar Bini, politicians should be monitored to prevent them from making inciting utterances that might divide Kenyans along political and tribal lines.
"As Muslim clerics we are really concerned about the next elections and we don't want the re-occurrence of the 2007 post-election violence, we want it to be peaceful, anyone going against peaceful campaigns should be arrested and charged," he said.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Wednesday, Bini said hate mongers should be arrested and charged because they destabilize the country.
He however warned youths against being used by politicians to gain political mileage.
"Youths should engage in constructive activities that will make them earn a living since politicians give youths handouts during electioneering period only to ignore them after ascending to power," he said.
