Nakuru county commissioner Mohammed Birik has directed local administrators to continue the war against illicit brewers.

The county commissioner said on Friday that local administrators have a big task of dealing with makers and sellers of illegal alcohol especially chang’aa.

Birik who was speaking to journalists from his office said the war against illicit brews should go on.

“Local administrators across Nakuru should continue to fight against illegal brewers,” he said.

Birik said the county has strategized in order to completely curb illegal alcohol making which continue to ravage families and individuals.

The county commissioner said the county government will work with the National Authority Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) to fight illicit brewing.

Birik indicated that cases of illicit brewing have reduced but said the war against it must be maintained.

The commissioner appealed to locals to support local officials as they mount fight against the makers and sellers.

Birik added that alcohol consumption remains a big challenge especially among the youth. He said the same can only be curbed in illegal makers and sellers of alcohol are dealt with.

The commissioner on the same note warned illicit brew makers who attack police during raids on their dens saying they will be arrested and charged.

“Anyone who attacks a police officer is a criminal and the rule of law will act on him,” the commissioner warned.
