[Photo/masterfile.com] Parents are a great blessing in our lives.
Their care and affection in our lives keep us nurtured.
However, the attention they direct into our lives can get out of hand.
Sometimes parents smother their children. A parent can get so much into your space that they impede your growth.
They are used to looking at you as their baby and might be unable to let go of that as you grow older.
It might sound nice when a mother looks at you as her baby but it can be blown out of proportion. Everyone needs personal space to grow.
You cannot have your parents supervising your every move.
A certain level of autonomy gives you the maturity to make your own decisions. To get clingy parents off your back, prove that you can do things on your own.
Start off with accomplishing small responsibilities on your own.
This helps your parents trust you as a responsible person.
With this, you can ask them to give you some rope to go out and do your thing. If they are constantly worried about whether you are fine, just update them often on your well-being. Discipline and maturity are values you have to take charge of yourself.
This means you have to make decisions on your own eventually. Create a healthy relationship with your parents where they let you take control of your life. Everyone needs personal space to grow.
