Guardians taking care of orphans in Kiambu sub-county have been urged to do a follow-up on death certificates of the parents to enable the children access funds like bursary allocations.
Addressing residents in Ndumberi on Monday, Tabitha Kamau, the chairlady of Maendeleo ya Wanawake in Ndumberi ward made the call to help young orphans benefit from the funds.
“Take it as a responsibility to follow up and get the death certificate because it is crucial evidence in helping allocate funds to the needy children. The officials in CDF offices need to prove that the children applying for the funds are truly the ones the County government has allocated the funds for,” said Kamau
Kamau further explained that apart from bursary funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), for an orphan to benefit from their parents pension or wealth, the legal child of the diseased needs a death certificate among other credentials to access the money.
“When someone passes on, the children also need the deceased’s death certificates as a main necessary document together with other documents so as to apply for next of keen beneficiaries,” she added.
