Celebrated Benga musician Bernard Onsongo alias Onsongo O’ Mosongo’s funeral had to be postponed for another one week to allow family construct a house for him.
Onsongo,41,died last week at St. Francis Hospital in Kasarani and he was set to be laid to rest this Friday, only for the funeral committee to push forward the plans ‘to allow family set a house’.
The renowned Bana Sungusia vocalist served as a councilor in the defunct county council in Nyamira in 2007 – 2013 before reverting to music as his full time career.
With a host of politicians having set Friday for burial, Ex – Journalist Nyambega Gisesa announced the postponement of the funeral on various social media platforms.
“The family of Onsongo has pushed his burial to next Friday as opposed to initial plans,” said Nyambega, a youth leader in the region.
He added:”This was necessitated by decision by the family to set a house for him, which is also in the final stages.”
Despite his high social status, it is not clear why the musician took long time to set a home in his rural home or elsewhere. Sources also say the postponement would allow family to persuade his estranged wife to return.
