Former Ulinzi Stars forward Stephen Waruru has hailed his decision to quit the 2010 Kenya Premier League champions as one of the best decisions he's ever made.

Speaking to Sportpesa News on Friday, the diminutive striker said that all he wanted was to be free adding that his dual duty of playing football and serving as a military officer was weighing him down greatly and hampering his performance on the pitch in his near-decade with the Soldiers.

"Looking back, I think this is the best decision that I have made. For a while now,all I wanted was to be free," he said.

After a back and forth on his transfer plans, the Kenyan international finally settled for Sofapaka and he has vowed to help the 2009 KPL champions bag some trophies.

"I want to play football and help this great club win the Sportpesa Premier League next year," he said of Sofapaka.

Waruru revealed that his decision to opt for Batoto Ba Mungu was largely influenced by the club's ambitions and the good work their head coach Sam Ssimbwa has been doing.

"I like what Sam Ssimbwa is doing at the club. That is the coach I want to work with as I continue to grow career-wise.Going by the club's perfomance last season, challenging for the title next season can be achieved," he added.
