Egerton University has developed a Declaration of Interest Policy in meetings to enhance integrity and good management standards.
The university’s International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) manager Elijah Ouma announced at a workshop on Monday in Nakuru Town Campus, targeting departmental heads and junior staff.
According to the internal ISO manager, the university would adopt the policy in all official meetings from the departmental to management level, in order to cultivate a culture of integrity and transparency in discussions and decisions during meetings.
He told participants that the new policy was an ISO requirement and also in line with the need to uphold the university’s zero tolerance to corruption.
“The university management has made a decision that all participants in meetings starting from departmental to management levels should declare their interests in all items on agenda,” said Ouma.
He said that by declaring interests in any agenda during meetings, a participant would be allowed to skip sessions and decision making of the agenda to prevent bias, a key element in transparency and integrity.
“You will be excused from the item’s discussion so as not to influence discussion angle or decision,” he said.
He urged all university staff to work hard and live up to the standards of their ISO certification.
