Kitui Senator David Musila has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to get serious in the fight against graft by cracking the whip on top government officials involved in the vice, instead of always blaming juniors officials.
Speaking in Eldoret town during the Kitui Secondary Schools Heads meeting on Wednesday, Musila said that corruption was evident in the Jubilee administration and has interfered with national security.
He said corruption should be declared a national disaster.
"Since President Kenyatta has publicly admitted that corruption is a challenge to his government, he should declare it a national disaster and start dealing with with the seriousness it deserves since Kenya has lost a lot of money through corruption which could have helped wananchi," he said.
He said leaders involved in corruption should be jailed and should not be fined since they can pay their way out.
"Institutions such as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is part and parcel of corruption since it has failed to fight the vice and all officials should be sent home and replaced with competent ones," he said.
"I urge the National Assembly to pass a legislation that will give the anti-corruption commission more powers to arrest, prosecute and charge those involved in corruption," he said.
