Maendeleo ya Wanawake Mavoko sub county Chairperson Angelina Mutethia has claimed most women in the sub county who cannot give birth were affected by high drug consumption.

Ms Mutethia noted that the rate of drugs and alcohol uptake among women in the region was increasingly worrying.

"Drugs and alcohol has made several women from Mavoko sub county barren, they have seized giving birth," said Mutethia.

Mutethia said such women were bad examples to not only their own biological children but also those from their neighbourhoods.

She said a number of children get their morals corrupted whenever they see women who they treat as their own mothers misbehave having consumed illicit substances.

Mutethia blamed the increased uptake of such substance on laxity in part of provincial administrators in the area.

According to her, the administrators were sleeping on the job thereby allowing the return of illicit brews and second generation alcohol which she said had gotten their ways back into the sub county.

Mutethia said as women leaders, they were ready to work with provincial administration apparatus to avert the situation and eliminate such substances from the region.
