The decomposing body of a middle-aged man was retrieved from Njoro River near Egerton University by police and taken to Nakuru General Hospital Mortuary.
According to Njoro Police boss Fredrick Lai, the unidentified man’s body was discovered by an employee of Egerton University near a bridge in Njokerio village.
Lai, who ruled out a possibility of attack by criminals since according to his assessment, the body did not have any injury marks also said police suspected that the man could have been drunk before he fell into the river.
He said: “We suspect that the man accidentally fell into the river at a point far from here. Investigations and the post-mortem examination will reveal the cause of his death.”
The deceased was believed to have fallen into the river upstream, since the area locals could not identify him.
“We do not think he was attacked by criminals. He might have been drunk and fell into the river,” said Lai.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged man from the same area identified as Alex Waiganjo was accidentally hit and killed by a personal car whose driver did not stop. According to Lai, the man was looking after sheep near Njoro town along Nakuru-Narok road when the accident occurred.
The police boss confirmed that the herder was crossing the road with his stock when a fast moving car knocked him to death. Police took his body to Nakuru General Hospital Mortuary.
Three sheep were also killed in the accident.
