After the eviction of traders from the former Oile Market, businesspersons at Jubilee Market within Kisumu City are now facing a major challenge of clogging in the business place.
Addressing the press, the chairperson of Jubilee Market, Martin Oluoch said overpopulation has caused unhealthy business competition among traders.
Oluoch added that insecurity has become very rampant in the market in the lake side city resulting from high rate of joblessness.
He added that thieves have taken advantage of the market having only one security personnel to guard the entire area.
According to Oluoch, they have pleaded with the City Manager of Kisumu County through letters on several occasions to look into the matters but the response has been unsatisfactory.
William Otaya, a businessman in Jubilee Market said that overpopulation has also affected the sanitation of the market. With sewer lines bursting and the market taking up to two days before cleaning, many customers are being lost.
They are now appealing to the Kisumu County government to formulate measures that can help in decongesting the market.
