Politicians in Kisumu have angrily reacted to a statement by Karachuonyo MP James Rege that people against his association with the Jubilee administration were enemies of development.
In an interview with radio Ramogi on Wednesday, the controversial ODM legislator said he had seen the need to work with government as the move has helped bring development to the his constituency.
ODM Kisumu Central executive committee members on Monday criticised Mr Rege for going against ODM party ideals by associating with the ruling coalition.
They said Mr Rege made the move without getting party 'blessings'.
Mr Rege during the talk show said working with the government did not mean he had abandoned Cord.
A section of politicians from Kisumu after the radio talk show however, dismissed him as a 'cheap populist' who has betrayed the ideals of the party that took him to Parliament and the people who voted for him.
They questioned his loyalty to the party and dared him to decamp to where his heart and mind belonged to.
Nominated MCA Faridah Salim said ODM and Luo Nyanza region were tired of people like Mr Rege who have openly shown 'rebellion' and warned him he might be voted out in 2017.
"As Kisumu leaders, we are disappointed with the conduct of Mr Rege. He has openly shown us where he belongs. His decision to declare his intent to work with Jubilee is enough to show us that he is no longer loyal to ODM," said Ms Salim.
Nyalenda A MCA Jackton Onunga wondered which development the lawmaker was referring to.
He asked Mr Rege to show his constituents the development projects which the Kenyatta-led government had undertaken in the area since 2013.
"I am surprise that Mr Rege's can make an assertion that he was working with Jubilee for the sake of development. Let him show us which project Jubilee has funded in his area," said Mr Onunga.
