Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has dismissed Raila Odinga's claims that 2022 election debate will derail ongoing dialogue process with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Instead, the Siaya senator says Raila should embrace the early endorsement as it is not part of his agreement with Uhuru in the secret MoU they signed.
"My statements should not be linked to Raila because I am also entitled to my opinions and political rights," he said in defense of his statement.
Hours after endorsing Raila's 2022 bid, Orengo was thrown to the receiving end after the latter refused to be drawn to the debate.
And according to him, those accusing him of introducing the 2022 presidential debate are insincere since a section of politicians have been campaigning for months.
"The whole country knows that there are those who have started campaigning for 2022 elections in some parts of the country. There is nothing wrong for some of us to campaign for Raila. He should as well join us for the interest of people," he said.
At Naivasha on Tuesday, Raila insisted that his agreement with Uhuru had nothing to do with 2022 elections, adding that he is no longer interested in presidency.
