Siaya Senator James Orengo has accused United States of America for pursuing selfish interests at the expense of democracy in Kenya.

For months now, Washington DC has been pushing for dialogue between NASA leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, a move that has not gone well with Orengo.

"They are not doing it out of goodwill but for their own selfish interests. They are not interested in democracy but in imagery stability," he said on Saturday.

Similar remarks have been made by Raila in past rallies and has been particularly critical of President Donald Trump's envoy Robert Godec.

Even without America's support in 90s, Orengo says, pro-democracy crusaders managed to push reforms during Daniel Moi's leadership.

"Even in the past when we were fighting for re-introduction of democracy , America had no interest. Envoys were wining and dining with Moi's oppressive one-party regime," he said.

Further, Orengo says Kenyans will eventually overcome the alleged subversion of democracy by Uhuru Kenyatta, who he argues enjoys support of the US.
