Margaret Omondi, has also faulted parents for neglecting their parental roles, adding that there is need for them to monitor their children's whereabouts in a bid to tame the vice.

Speaking on Thursday in an interview with Citizen Digital, Omondi said bodaboda operators entrusted with the role of dropping off children at school take advantage of the situation to sexually abuse the students.

She further raised concerns over the parents' failure to report such cases, a move she said allows the culprits to go unpunished.

“Cases of defilement by bodaboda riders are on the rise. Unfortunately, parents tend to disregard the rights of the victim and resolve to settle the issue secretly without involving the authorities,” said Omondi.

She called for the government's intervention in curbing the menace, and urged the Kisumu County Government to set up rescue stations for rape victims.
