However, he called on the degree level qualification to be maintained to the parliamentary,Gubernatorial, Senatorial and Presidential positions.

According to Okoth, imposition the degree level qualification on MCAs and Women Reps was only going to impede the political ambitions of the youthful people in the society who may not accessed university education due to unavoidable circumstances.

Okoth made the remarks on Friday while on Citizen TV during a morning interview show.

"We should not impose the degree qualification on MCA and Women Rep positions. This will only bar many aspiring youths who want to join politics. They may not have accessed university education due to unavoidable circumstances and hence they should be given a chance to realize their dreams. However, the move by President Kenyatta to stop the offering of quick university degrees to political leaders is laudable since the institutions of higher learning are supposed to maintain quality," said Okoth.

Earlier on on Thursday while attending a graduation ceremony at Kibabii University in Bungoma County, President Uhuru Kenyatta barred all universities from offering quick university education to politicians who have set their eyes on the next general elections.
