Students in Kisumu Central Constituency will have to wait until March to receive their bursary cheques. Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, Kisumu Central CDF Secretary Mercy Ang’awa said the National government is yet to disburse funds to the Constituency kitty, adding that there is a possibility the funds will be disbursed in March.Ang’awa said the constituency issued out 5,500 bursary forms in October last year. 3, 500 forms went to high school students while the remaining were picked up by college, university and driving school students. “It is unfortunate that we have not disbursed the cheques yet because the national government has not yet released the funds, but we believe by March, the cheques will be ready for picking up by people who applied for bursaries,” she said.Ang’awa said Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda is currently paying school fees for 55 needy students from across the constituency who joined form one this year after performing well in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.“It is his own initiative to the people. You remember during campaigns he promised to sponsor needy students as a way of empowering residents through education,” added the CDF secretary.
