NTSA to fine Kenyans. [Photo/Standard]National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director-General Francis Meja has said Kenyans who fail to collect their motor vehicle logbooks on time will now be fined Sh500 per month.
The penalty was supposed to be effective starting mid-September but Mr Meja said the authority is working on how the fines will be paid before rolling them out soon. To process the document The authority takes five working days and at the moment it has more than 15,000 uncollected logbooks.Nairobi County has the highest number with 8,763, followed by Mombasa with 5,998. A total of 228 and 130 logbooks are yet to be collected in Kisumu and Nyeri respectively. Mr Meja said some of the logbooks have been lying at their offices for more than seven months. “Applicants should move with speed and pick their documents,” he said.Mr Meja said that most of the authority’s services have gone online, thus making it easier for the public to access them.He indicated that NTSA has made efforts to contact the individuals via SMS but the customers ignore the communication.
