Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said that delay by the County Assembly to debate and pass the supplementary budget has stalled most development projects in the county.

Addressing the press in his office on Wednesday, Mbugua said that most projects and important government programmes have been halted because of lack of approved money.

He said that there are projects which should have been completed by January but failure by the Assembly to hasten the passage of the supplementary budget has forced the government to halt most of its activities.

“The supplementary budget is something which should have been passed long time ago but as we speak it is still in the County Assembly floor and since we cannot work without money we have been forced to halt most of our projects until such a time when the Assembly will give us the go ahead by passing the supplementary estimates,” said Mbugua.

Mbugua appealed to the county MCAs to prioritise passing of the budget to prevent his government from running into a complete halt.

“If the budget will not have been passed by the end of this week then all functions of the government risk being paralysed and the County Assembly must be aware of that,” said Governor Mbugua.

The County Executives and the County Assembly Members have been tussling over the passage of the supplementary budget after the Assembly accused the Executive of transferring more than Sh300 million which had earlier been allocated to the Assembly back to the Executives.
