The opposition has been on record saying that the Monday demonstration was a show by Kenyans agitating for their democratic rights that the constitution approves.
Interestingly, almost everyone is crying foul on the aftermath of the peaceful protests by the opposition.
Cord is crying and lamenting over police brutality. Businessmen and women are complaining over the closure of businesses, looting by protestors and low profits. The police are accusing the opposition and its supporters of disrupting peace. The government shouting that the opposition is breeding tension ahead of the 2017 elections. Protestors accuse the police of brutal and inhuman beatings. Now, to who has these democratically granted protests benefited?
I tend to believe that the price of democracy has sharply shot up. It is only the courageous that can competitively fight to secure democracy but this is not my point.
I wish to seek answers from the opposition, the police, and every concerned citizen. Is there a way that Kenyans and Kenya as a country can address the IEBC standoff without bloodshed?
I applaud the decision by the opposition to seek a court action against the IEBC. I believe it is the only way that can bring a viable outcome.
