There were mass demonstrations on Tuesday in Eldoret town following the summoning of Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet governors by police over Moi University succession dispute.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi had summoned Governor Jackson Mandago and his Elgeyo-Marakwet counterpart Alex Tolgos to record statements over utterances they made when they stormed Moi University to oppose the appointment of Prof Laban Ayiro as new vice-chancellor.
The governors alongside Kapeseret MP Oscar Sudi were grilled at the DCI headquarters.
Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the protesters who brought business to a standstill in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet.
Prof Ayiro was appointed by Education CS Fred Matiang’I to succeed Prof Richard Mibey, whose term expired on September 19, 2016.
The leaders however protested the appointment, saying Prof Kosgey deserved the post.
The CS has however said he will not engage the politicians over the matter.
