[Photo/ mediamaxnetwork.co.ke]Health officials in Mombasa County have issued an alert over an outbreak of Dengue Fever.Speaking on Monday, County Health Chief Officer Dr Khadija Shikely said by Sunday, the disease had spread to all the six constituencies in the county, with 119 cases being confirmed in the major private hospitals.
Shikley said the disease had spread to neighbouring counties in the Coast region.
However, no fatalities have been reported so far, reports KBC.According to the daily, the heavy downpour that is being witnessed in the county has created breeding ground for mosquitoes which transmit the disease to humans.The most affected areas in the county are Kisauni which has reported 37 cases and Mvita 25. The disease which has no treatment or vaccination, is said to be more prevalent in crowded and unhygienic area.It is controlled by spraying stagnant water and clearing bushes around homes.
The county health department is set to unveil the measures it will undertake to mitigate the situation.
