A hospital in Mombasa has detained the body of a man claimed to have died from dengue fever over an unpaid Sh3.7 million hospital bill.4

The victim, Henry Muturi, is believed to have contracted the disease shortly after reporting severe headaches.

According to Henry''s mom, Joyce Mureu, he had traveled to Mombasa on a business trip when he first started feeling the symptoms.

“It all started with a severe headache. He sought treatment in different hospitals in Mombasa and Nairobi. It took a toll on him, he was later admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition in the intensive care unit,” said Joyce as reported by the Daily Nation.

She says Henry was diagnosed with malaria and given antibiotics. He resumed working while on his medication and decided to take a business trip to Uganda.

“When he came back, his condition had worsened. He went to a private hospital and was told he was suffering from dengue fever. He was admitted. On June 21, he couldn’t breathe, so he was put on oxygen. He was later taken to the ICU." Joyce added.

The mother reported that she stayed 14 days in the hospital with her son before he died.

Henry Muturi's body has been kept by a private mortuary waiting for the Sh3.7 million hospital bill to be cleared.
