Panellists at the presidential running mates debate held on Monday at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa took a swipe at the Senior Director for Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi for what they termed to as 'reckless tweets'.They said Itumbi is a 'pedestrian thinker' who should concentrate on Facebook, Twitter and social media in general and leave serious communications to State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu. It all started when Itumbi tweeted that the Deputy President William Ruto and his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta won't be attending any of the Presidential debates but would instead 'engage Kenyans in their homes, market places and their places of work.'"This is an insult to the people of Kenya and I would like the President and his deputy to hear me crystal-clear. It is completely unacceptable that you will communicate to Kenyans through Itumbi," said Miguna Miguna, one of the panellists. He added: "Who is Itumbi? Do these people understand statecraft? This is the director of messaging and internet. This is the man now talking to Kenyans about the President's attendance at a presidential debate. Is this a joke or this is communication from State House?"Security Analyst Dr Simiyu Werunga who was also a panellist said Itumbi has no 'intellectual capacity' to handle serious communications involving the Presidency and the State and can, therefore, never be taken seriously.
