State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi has been awarded Sh5 million by the High Court.
Itumbi won a case where he had sued the government for illegal arrest and detention by the police in 2012.
Itumbi was accused of illegally accessing the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) email in 2012He is then said to have been arrested and detained without trial for a lengthy period, prompting him to sue.
He had sued the Attorney General Githu Muigai, Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett, seeking a whopping Sh50 million as compensation for the violation of his constitutional rights.
In his application, Itumbi further wanted the court to direct against any further arrests over the same.
President Kenyatta’s case and his deputy at the ICC were concluded in 2015, after years of running at the Netherlands-based court.
