Murang’a County government has announced plans to move the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital, located in Kenol Town to a public land.Governor Mwangi Wa Iria said his administration has identified public land suitable for the construction of the facility.“We will be constructing a modern unit which will accommodate even more patients and serve the region better,” he said while addressing Kenol residents yesterday. The hospital, which has equipment worth over Sh100 million was opened last year. It has been the subject of a heated debate because it is housed in a private building. But four months after it was opened the owner of the building, George Wainaina, has threatened to bring in auctioneers to attach the hospital’s equipment after the county failed to pay rent amounting to over Sh8 million. The county boss further defended his move to purchase 10 acres of land using public funds saying the cost did not exceed the current market price.
