Speaking in Kuresoi South during the weekend, Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto said that despite free maternity services offered by the government, many women in the region do not deliver in health centers.

“You cannot afford to risk their lives and the lives of new born babies by delivering at home. Jubilee government offers free maternity services and you won’t pay anything. You have no reason to deliver at home,” Ruto challenged women when addressing Jikaze Women Group in Saptet Village, Keringet Ward.

He further said that hygienic conditions at home do not meet the required health standards and could lead to the infections for mother and baby.

On a different note, the governor challenged the women to venture into the business opportunities so as to improve their living standards. He donated Ksh30000 to Jikaze Women group.
