The Deputy Governor of Kisumu issued a clarification, defending Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, following misreporting that he banned hotel meetings.
Below is his statement.
"The Governor would like to reiterate his earlier condemnation of any act that involves buying of IDs within Kisumu County. It is very unfortunate that a section of the public, mainstream and social media have taken the condemnation of this injurious act to mean blanket ban on seminars and workshops: this is pure propaganda and a malicious attempt to taint the image of Prof Anyang Nyong’o and must be treated with utmost contempt that it deserves .
The Governor did caution hotel owners to exercise vigilance especially with workshops and seminars during this campaign period to ensure their agenda are above board. He further asked Non Governmental Organizations and Religious Groups organizing civic awareness seminars held within Kisumu to inform the County Government or ODM Party officials before such events are held in order to avoid misconstruing them with buying IDs.
This is to avoid repeat of unfortunate incidences like in the recent past.
Business and Company meetings and seminars ARE NOT AFFECTED by this cautionary action.
Dr. Ochieng OwiliDeputy Governor."
