Speaking on Monday through his representative Ken Okemwa during a debate at Kisii University, the county boss said that his objective is to ensure youths were given opportunities to flourish.

Okemwa said, “Starting this debate amongst students from universities and colleges is just but a start. We want more avenues to engage youths in development related activities”.

However, Okemwa raised his dissatisfaction with the non-commitment by the youths to form groups and write proposals that can lead to support from the county government.

“Dr Maangi has just informed me that very few of you are committed in forming youth groups that can be funded by the county government. He has requested me to remind you of the vast opportunities that the county leadership can support,” he added.

The debate on devolution among students from institutions of higher learning will be sponsored by the county leadership twice in a year and it will be mandated to give suggestions on areas that need to be perfected by the Kisii county government.

Elsewhere, Kisii University student leadership lauded the county leadership for the recent installation of street lights along the highway leading to the institution.

Speaking yesterday ahead of their trip to Nakuru, Chairman Rodgers Nyanumba said the leadership was satisfied with the move by county government saying it will significantly reduce crime rates along the place.

“On behalf of the institution I would like to appreciate the county leadership on the installation of lights. This is a major step towards reducing crime rates in this place which basically targets our fellow students,” he said.

He urged the community to safeguard the lights besides calling for a stern action to whoever who may attempt to vandalise the property.
