On Thursday, Onchana was asked to quit office in a letter purportedly emanating from Nyagarama, who was out of duty.

"The governor was off duty and the signature in the letter does not come anywhere close to his. This is forgery and the DG must take responsibility," said Lameck Motari.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko said: "It is sad that someone can assume powers of the governor and start sacking people. This impunity must be stopped."

When reached for comment, Onchana, who is plotting to move to court, termed his dismissal as 'impunity at its best'.

But in a separate interview, Nyaribo denied undermining the governor insisting that the letter was written in good faith.

"There was consultations and claims that the governor did not sign the letter are untrue," he said in his defense.
