Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Eliud Muriithi was on Wednesday robbed Sh3.5 million by his bodyguard in Kinoru estate.
According to police, the deputy county boss had just arrived at his compound when the bodyguard robbed him at gunpoint.
It is alleged that the bodyguard, an Administration Police officer threatened to shoot Mureithi when he attempted to resist.
According to Mureithi, the money was from a piece of land he had sold at Kathwana within the county.
“The deputy governor was not with his personal driver. We are investigating the matter,” said Eastern Region Police Commander Gideon Amalla while confirming the incident.
