The county government of Uasin Gishu has warned that it might be forced to impose economic sanctions on counties that have witnessed chaos and disruption of properties of their residents.
This follows a recent incident in which rowdy youths pelted stones at Matatus plying the Eldoret-Kericho road at Chemilil.
Addressing the press at his office in Eldoret town on Monday, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chembo condemned the incident which he termed as unacceptable.
Chemno who held a meeting with officials of the affected Matatu Sacco's asked the opposition leadership to reign on their supporters to stop acts of destruction of property.
"We want to condemn in the strongest terms possible incidents of vehicle stoning that were recently witnesses at Chemilil in Kisumu County," said Mr. Chemno.
"Such acts of lawlessness are unacceptable and we want to tell NASA leadership that if the attacks on our people continue we will be left with no option but to impose sanctions whereby we will not allow transportation of people or goods to the affected region," he added.
Chemno further asked the police to ensure law and order is restored so that transport services resumes normal operations in the Eldoret-Kericho route.
Similar sentiments were shared by Wareng Matatu Sacco vice chairman John Kirui, who said six vehicles were damaged by the rowdy youths in the incident that happened following the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of repeat presidential election.
"All we want is for us to have an environment where we can operate without our vehicles being damaged since we believe there are laws that should be guiding us," Kurui said.
