Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Stanley Tarus Kenei has warned the national government against reducing the budgetary allocation for devolved units.
Addressing the press in Kitale town, Tarus said that slashing of Sh18 billion from the county kitty will affect service delivery in the counties.
“Some of the services that will be affected negatively is the stocking of drugs in the hospitals, salaries, issuing of bursaries to students and improvement of infrastructure in the county," Tarus noted.
He said that Trans Nzoia County has already witnessed two go slows from the nurses in January and February due to the delayed payments.
“I am urging the controller of the budget to ensure that funds are disbursed before the 15th of every month to avoid further go-slows in the County,“ said the deputy governor.
He reiterated that the national government should consider reducing the budget for other sectors but not for the county governments.
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich recently revealed plans by the government to slash funds allocated to counties by between Sh15 billion and Sh17 billion following what he said was difficulties the government is facing in financing some of its development projects.
He blamed the situation on failure by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to hit its projected collection targets.
